Wastewater Department Report

   by Raymond Arnold, Wastewater Supervisor

Our Wastewater System is 30 years old.  We have had some small issues within the collection system, but we have been able to do those repairs with  available  revenue  funds.  We are currently addressing additional maintenance issues with some of the manholes in our collection system.  Basically, the Wastewater Treatment Plant is operating very well.

Water Department Report

by Raymond Arnold, Water Supervisor

Water samples are collected twice a month and tested by the Arkansas Department of Health.  Previously, these samples revealed that a disinfectant by-product, known as THM, was present. According to the standards set by the Arkansas Department of Health, our water quality was out of compliance.

Community Water must add/dispense/administer chlorine for us to have safe drinking water.  The length of time it takes for the water to come down the transmission lines to Mayflower triggers the chlorine to break down,  causing THM to be present in our water.

An upgrade to a water booster pump station  was one measure taken to correct this noncompliance.  Others included the installation of:

an aerator in the system to lower the disinfectant by-products,

a larger water main from the north tanks to the south tank,

a circular system in the water storage tanks, and

a chlorine booster station west of town on Highway 89 North.

The water improvement construction is being completed in four contracts, with contracts one and two 85%-95% completed.  Total construction should be completed by midsummer.

To accomplish these upgrades, a bond loan had to be obtained.  Unfortunately, water rates had to be increased for the first time in 17 years.

The Mayflower Waterworks strives to provide you with the highest quality of water at the lowest possible rate, with the utmost customer service.
